Phonics and Reading

At St Aloysius Catholic Primary School we are committed to providing our pupils with a strong foundation in literacy. Our Phonics and Reading programme is designed to support each child's journey towards becoming a confident and fluent reader. We employ a systematic approach to phonics. We believe that a strong grasp of phonics enhances children's decoding abilities, which is crucial for reading success and overall academic achievement. We use a phonics programme called Read Write Inc. Through this the children learn new sounds and apply them to reading and writing words and sentences. Created by Dame Ruth Miskin, it is a complete literacy programme for children from Reception (P1) to Year 4 (P5), and children with SEND in older year groups.
